17.08.2016 - A couple of questions for Jan & Franz
- Are you satisfied with your performance?
Yes we are! Only the placement could have been better. We started as semifinal winners and after seeing that the other boats achieved very fast times.
In the final we had the pressure of knowing that we had to paddle for the best time, that we needed to be 6 seconds faster than we were on semifinals, that we couldn’t afford penalty points, or any mistake. Plus all this we had all viewers and familiars watching and cheering us, with all these factors in mind - that you indeed want to hide but it is no possible - we started the final.
We showed our power and did a good performance, in each split time we were ahead and about 1.7 seconds faster than the winning boat, only on the last two gates we were just unlucky with the water, we didn’t make a mistake, it was just so that the flow had reversed and we lost valuable time and speed. When we came to the finish we and saw a 4th place it was disappointing at first, but if we think about what we have achieved, we can only laugh because there is no fault in our actions so we just can say that the others just were better and we should not be ashamed of our performance.
- The Olympic Games in Rio, how was it?
The Olympics were marked by small or sometimes large imperfections, but everything worked! Only there were sometimes situations that could be resolved only at the last minute and have required a very Brazilian solution. It started at the controls, if one wanted he could simply avoid them to get inside; the tickets could be used multiple times by different viewers. For the majority of the population of Rio 's games were very welcome and were celebrated and you always felt the hospitality of the people.
- What do you take with you?
We have gained a lot of impressions, we had a lot of laughs and were happy with each other and also sometimes annoyed, but unfortunately what really remains was a very painful experience. We lost one of our coaches in a car accident, we are such a small team and do virtually everything together and known each other for many years and then just to be taken away like this is tough. Our thoughts are with the friends and family members by Stefan Henze.
- What is coming next?
Franz will compete in the last two World Cups this year, which are in Prague and Ljubljana and the last race of the season for us will be in the German Championships. After that we are both going to take a real vacation. For Franz, will be in the coast of Portugal and Jan will relax in Croatia a few days before our training starts again and we prepare us for the 2017 season, with the highlight of the World Cup in Pau , France.
- Are you now Stronger Than Ever?
We don’t even need to think for a second! Of course we are, more than ever before. We have been working towards the Olympics in Rio in the last 4 years and we achieved it! We have trained and grown together as never before, in the final of Rio we were standing as the best and we have a demonstrated a first class performance. The 4th place hurts, but we have learned a lot. So we can proudly we claim that are STRONGER THAN EVER.
